I Love You, Valentine

I'm always looking for new craft projects to do with my boy's. I came upon a similar picture as to the one I made on pintrest but their were no directions and the link to the picture had been deleted. So I sorted through some of my scrapbook paper and other craft paper, sat them aside, and started thinking of some different things we could do with it.

This American Sign Language "I Love You, Valentine" is great because it gives you a different way to say I love you. It's very simple and easy and the best part is, is that toddlers can help!!

Materials Needed:
Crafting paper (various colors)
Cut out hearts (various sizes)
Scissors
Glue
Cut out hand

Other things that could be used:
Stamps
Stickers
Paint

Step 1:
Cut out the desired sizes of at least 3 hearts. You may add as many different hearts as you would like for a layered effect. For my main heart I used the top to a box of valentine chocolates. Set aside your hearts. Now trace a hand (would be a great time to have a toddler or child help) and cut it out as well.

Step 2:
Trace your hearts and hand(s) onto your desired paper.

Step 3:
At this point, you do can either decorate your hearts by placing stickers on them, painting, using stamps, OR you can paste your hearts together by stacking them. I simply stacked them and then decorated everything when I was done. Once you have pasted your hearts together take your hand print and paste it on top of your hearts. Now bend down the middle finger and the ring finger just so that the tips are touching the paper.
This of course says "I love you" in American Sign Language.

Step 4: (Optional)
After I had glued everything together I took my tic tac toe I Love You stamp and stamped in the middle of the hand. Although, I couldn't find any of my ink so I used regular crayola paint. If you try this practice on a different piece of paper first and make sure there is not too much paint otherwise it will be runny.
If you haven't done it already now would be a great time to finish decorating your card.

This is what it looked like before I let the kids go at it....

and after.....

This project definitely isn't anything fancy but it's a lot of fun for little kids to participate in!!

Raggedy Old Witch Tulle Broom Stick

I just got done making a Raggedy Old Witch tutu dress this morning. When I started on this dress my intentions were not to make a witch tutu but rather a panda bear tutu dress. I didn't like how it was looking and got irritated, so I took everything apart and started over.

After I was done, I decided that we needed more to go with it. So I started brainstorming on some ideas. What does a witch need most? Obviously a broom and a hat. So I started looking up brooms and hats on the internet  and started thinking again, why am I looking at this stuff when I'm sure I can make one of my own?!

Tulle Broom Stick

Supplies Needed:

Scissors
Measuring Tape
About 20-25 11" pieces of tulle (I use 6" wide tulle)
About 10-15 8" pieces of tulle
Floral stem or something similar
Hot Glue Gun (plugged in and ready to go)
Ribbon (to match your tulle)

First off, I like to get everything ready before I dive into a new project.

Cut about 10-12 11" pieces of tulle and then cut each piece in half length wise. Do the same for your 8" pieces of tulle. After measuring and cutting your tulle, set aside your smaller portion.
(Please note that your tulle does not need to be perfect by any means. You may add more less for a fuller broom vs. a thinner broom.)

Next take your longer tulle and mix it to whatever pattern you would like to have. I just did a quick mix, nothing fancy. Start to gather your tulle to make a fan type shape like a broom.

Once you have you tulle to the desired fullness and shape, poke your index finger through the bottom part of your tulle to make a small tunnel. Take your glue gun and dab a little glue inside your funnel. Then take the bottom part of your floral stem and slide it into the hole. once the glue has dried, inspect it further to see if you will need more glue. (I added quite a bit more glue to mine)

Now take some of your ribbon and and tie around your tulle and stem.

Once you have tied your tulle to your stem you are pretty much done.
Now just let your creative juices flow and add your little touches.

If you try it out, please let me know how you did!!

Craft Supplies Mayhem

I have craft supplies everywhere!!! Unfortunately, I don't have an extra room available to do my crafting in so my supplies is scattered everywhere. I have totes, diaper boxes, plastic containers, drawers and more! My ribbon is scattered, laying on top of each other in plastic containers, while my tulle is disorganized just lying in a box.

My problem is, is I travel from room to room to do my crafting so my supplies is never actually with me. I'm kind of confused on how to organize everything in such a way that I will be able to travel from room to room.

What am I going to do about the situation? Well fist off, I need to desperately organize my ribbon. So I went to hobby lobby and searched REALLY hard for anything that could possibly hold my ribbon and could still look "artsy". I looked at a lot of shelves that had iron rods on them but the nobs didn't come off, so how was I going to get my ribbon on them. I wasn't, that's how! So I finally walked down a aisle that had candles and candle holders, and found and interesting iron candle holder that had small rods. I thought about it for a minute and decided that I could pull some of the rods down and my ribbon could easily be stored on them and what hasn't been opened yet can go in the middle....SCORE!! Not to mention the larger one was $7.99 and the smaller one was $5.99 and both were 50% off...so they were actually $4.00 and $3.00....DOUBLE SCORE!!

Now if I could get everything else organized!! That'll be a later blog :)
